The Connoquenessing Creek Cleanup Project is an annual event formed by Allegheny Aquatic Alliance (AAA) for the restoration of this important local waterway. Tackling 10-20 mile sections each summer, we aspire to clean the entire creek by removing the physical pollution that consumes it. Connoquenessing Creek was once a beautiful, unspoiled waterway but due to decades of abuse and neglect, it has tragically become an endangered natural resource. It was rated the 2nd most polluted waterway in America in 2000! For years, waste has been directly dumped into the creek by illegal dumping and annual flooding and tires that were once used to stabilize the creek banks are now falling into the water.

Join the SWEP Team this year to help us restore this vital waterway back to its beautiful, natural state by becoming a volunteer or sponsor. This year the stretch will be from Oakland Township to Butler Township.

For more information, contact AAA at 412.862.8217 or alleghenyaquaticalliance@hotmail.com.

Some things to know - You WILL get wet and dirty! Plan to wear old clothes and shoes that can get wet - you will be walking in the stream alongside a canoe and filling it with trash. All volunteers will meet at Lick Hill VFD, 122 Mcclellan Dr., Butler, PA 16001 for registration. All water, gloves and equipment, snacks, and lunch will be provided. Bring sunscreen as you will be out in the water for the duration of the day, and bring a change of dry clothes for after the event!
